Victoria Sharp

In 2018, I moved from the northern edge of Auckland to Palmerston North and found Just Zilch.

For three months, I collected food from Just Zilch twice a week to help reduce my weekly grocery bill. During this period, I was able to save $240, and this meant that I was able to enrol my daughter in touch rugby for a term, pay her fees, hire her uniform and buy her a pair of rugby shoes. I have five children, and she is the first I have ever been able to afford to enrol in a sport.

So, I decided to give back. I volunteered one night a week, and after three months, I moved onto a supervisor’s role for two shifts a week before progressing to the position of Assistant Operations Manager – a fulltime volunteer role.

In Oct 2019, Just Zilch was gifted the use of warehouse space, and I was asked to set up and run our Warehouse Operations – storing and then distributing excess product to community organisations. Our team now distributes over 25 tonnes of product per month, to over 80 community groups all over the lower North Island.
